Skip's Edtech Jobs: December 16, 2023

Thank you for reading the EdSkipper, Skip’s newsletter about skipping from education to education-aligned careers. Every Saturday, I send out a list of curated remote jobs. Premium subscribers receive two additional emails a month with industry insights and advice to help you apply more competitively to the jobs you’re passionate about.

The winter holiday season is always a weird time for hiring. I love how companies are more likely to post closing dates so that people have clarity about who will and won’t be checking email on the Friday before (or after) Christmas Day.

Many of the deadlines I’m seeing are tight. In fact, nearly 20% of the 49 jobs I sourced last Friday were closed by this Friday when I checked them again.

The tight turn around is likely influenced by how many applicants companies are getting — and a desire to get back to people before the holiday about interviews.

So make sure you have a really solid core resume for the jobs you’re applying to so you can take advantage of jobs you’re interested in over the next week or so before hiring deadlines start to stretch out again to get past the holiday season.

~I hope you find some fantastic jobs to apply to this weekend,

Last Week’s Poll Results:

Last week I asked people how many versions of their resume they have. I love a strategy one reader recommended: “I have 1 catch-all resume that I pick and choose jobs/job duties from to build my different resumes.” Another reader takes this strategy further and has created a master resume for the major job categories they are doing and then tailors as needed. “I try to tailor the resume to the job from the foundation of one of those resumes.”

This is a strategy I highly recommend (and the Airtable spreadsheet I shared with premium readers recently can help you organize your bullet points if you’re doing a lot of this plug and play).

If you have more than 5 versions of your resume, a great way to spend this coming hiring lull is to streamline your resume backend so you’re spending less time getting applications out!

This Week’s Poll

I recently ran across a fascinating report that shared the days when people are more likely to apply for a job. I assumed that it would be on the weekend, which is why you’re getting this newsletter on a Saturday. But the survey results suggested I should get some real data!

Today’s poll is meant to help me evaluate when I should send out the weekly newsletter and update the jobs database. Saturday might not be the best day after all.

Which day of the week are you most likely to apply for jobs?
